1. Sign Up For Emergency Alerts
Make sure you are signed up for Emergency Alerts
● Alert Marin is the most important place to register- if you didn’t get a test message in March- please check your account
● The County Emergency Portal is a great place to stay informed- book mark the link for quick access: https://emergency.marincounty.org/
● Know your evacuation zone- https://protect.genasys.com/
● Identify your neighborhood on the map provided by the San Rafael City Department of Emergency Services
2. Set a Meeting Location
- Discuss with family, friends, and neighbors where to meet if you need to evacuate.
- Choose a location well outside of your neighborhood.
3. Prepare a “Go” Bag
Have supplies ready!
1. Make go bag with essentials for 3-4 days including clothing, medication, food, important documents, water, and pet supplies.
2. Have a “grab and go” list- the items you don’t want to forget like your laptop, daily medications, or family photos
3. Keep cell phones and cars charged/fueled
4. Practice Your Plan
Have an Emergency Plan- visit Fire Safe Marin for guidance on creating your plan
- Know where and how you will evacuate
- Know who will do what- who grabs the pets, go bag, medications?
- How will you communicate?

Prepare and Educate
Our hope is that all our prevention and mitigation efforts mean an evacuation is never needed, but if it is, feel ready and confident by having a plan and practicing.
We know the time it takes to get into your car and onto a paved road is the most critical time which is why having a plan, go bag, and grab and go list is so important.
